In this Instructable, I’m going to show you how to make a Star Wars Stormtrooper cake. You can use this cake for your next Star Wars party, Halloween, Christmas, etc. If you haven’t worked with fondant before, this is a great starter cake to make using just two colors of fondant, black and white. If you love Star Wars and Stormtroopers, make this cake! If I can do that, so can you. Let’s start cooking!
Stormtrooper Cake Template
Start by baking your cake. You can use any kind of cake you like. Store-bought cake mix or a recipe from scratch.
Storm Trooper Birthday Cake
I use a 12 inch round cake tin because it allows me to make the cake extra large. However, you can use smaller cake pans if you like, or you can also use a rectangular cake pan.
Be sure to use the shortening/flour in the pan and even a piece of parchment paper on the bottom to ensure the cake comes off easily without sticking.
While the cake is cooling, find and print a Stormtrooper face stencil. Do a search online and you will be able to find out. Then save the image and measure it in a document such as Word or another similar program.

Remove cake from tin with parchment paper, if used. Put on a cutting board. Now place the mold on top in the center.
You can store these cake decorations and make cake balls or cupcakes with them or snack on them.
Add a piece of icing to the middle of the cake board. Then put the cake on it. Now freeze the whole cake. The frosting will act as a glue, and the fondant will stick to the cake and add flavor to the cake.

It’s time to work with white fondant. If you haven’t worked with fondant before, don’t worry, it’s very easy to work with.
Take a large piece of fondant and knead it with your hands. It must be kneaded before rolling. When it’s nice and smooth, roll out the fondant into a large oval or circle, the shape doesn’t matter as long as it’s much larger than the stencil.
Roll the fondant to about 1/8 inch thick. It can stick to your table or counter, if it does, roll it out on greaseproof paper or a silicone baking mat.

You can now roll it back on itself which will make it easier to put it on the cake.
Roll the fondant on top of the storm. Then use your clean hands and fingers to roll out and shape the fondant around the cake.
When finished, take a knife and cut the fondant into the bottom of the cake. If necessary, use a paper towel and blot the board near the base of the cake.

It’s time to cut out all the pieces from the mold that we want to use as a small guide for the black fondant. So cut out the long strip for the top, eyes, nose piece, loops and muzzle.
Now, take a piece of black fondant and knead it. Then roll it out again to an 1/8-inch thickness. Put the small template pieces on it and cut it out.
Use a small paintbrush and dip some water where you want to stick the black fondant. The water will act as the glue. Then put all the pieces on the cake.

If necessary, place the face on the cake again so you can see where all the pieces need to go.
You can add more details if you want. There are small white spots on the nose piece. You can cut and lay them out of white fondant. Or leave it all black.
Then take a small amount of black fondant and roll it into a thin snake. Cut it into small pieces and then apply it on the cheeks. Again, use as much water as needed for it to stick.
